James Mulcahy

James is a Jan Juc based artist and carpenter who moved to the coast after studying Fine Arts at RMIT University.

He started painting with watercolour during high school under the guidance of local Point Londsdale artist Ben Shearer. James’ inspiration is the east Australian landscape and his preliminary sketches are captured en plein air. He then scales them up in his studio, bringing them to life with multiple layers of transparent colour. His paintings are both realist and abstract. Explorations of form, colour, light and emotion.

Kat Tillman

Kat Tillman is an emerging visual artist who lives and works in jan juc. Having grown up in a small coastal town 10 minutes north of Wollongong, her colourful paintings pay homage to her time spent gallivanting down by the ocean and in the surrounding bushland.

Her distinctive personal style emanates nostalgia and joy and expresses the vibrant spirit of the Australian vista. Picturesque landscapes, native flora and fauna are all brought to life with contrasting and harmonious colours and bold compositions.

As the artist explains, “Growing up in the 90’s reading Paul Jennings and eating Zooper Doopers at the beach is whebre my mind takes me when i’m creating these works. Wholesome days, filled with laughter and celebration while submerged in this glorious land”.

Brittany March

Living by the sea has played a huge role in shaping Brittany’s life. As long as she can remember she has been fascinated by the ocean, marine life and the natural world and this is reflected in my work.

“I completed a Bachelors degree in Visual Communication in 2013 and have worked as a graphic designer and commercial illustrator since.

In 2016, I moved to the Surf Coast from South Australia and love being part of a tight-knit community. This place has truly captured my heart and continues to inspire me every day.

In 2019, I began to pursue my love of fine art. Whilst I am still passionate about working in the digital realm, I find creating artwork using traditional mediums is highly rewarding.

I'm thrilled now to work as an artist, illustrator and graphic designer and describe myself as multidisciplinary for this reason”.

Josh Pelletti

Josh Pelletti is a Jan Juc based designer who moved to the coast after studying communication design at Swinburne and working within design agencies in the city.

“Throughout study I developed a fascination in animation, and from there my path was drawn towards digital design.

Outside of my full time work hours I find pleasure in creating chaotic, distorted graphics on animation programs that I then bring into Photoshop, I continue to edit textures and compositions here, duplicating layers and exploring design within the intersection of images, playing with modes of image blending. I will continuously add to a composition until I find an aesthetic that I like, and from there I work to create a series using that same new aesthetic.

This series are a new work of bitmap projects,
a new medium I have been working with.

Each of these designs is printed onto 300GSM Satin recycled paper, mounted onto a foamcore backing board and framed using black painted - natural Australian pine wood.”
